Hi! My name is Laurie Smith Law, and I joined the staff of the University Honors Program as the Administrative Director in 2007. I served on the Board of Directors for the National Collegiate Honors Council from 2011 through 2014, and am currently co-chair of the organization’s Professional Development Committee. My primary responsibilities as the administrative director are to work in conjunction with the Honors staff and Honors Student Board to provide members of the Honors Program with an enriched academic experience.

Howdy! I graduated with my B.S. in Child, Adult, and Family Services and Psychology from Iowa State University, and am now pursuing a M.Ed in Student Affairs in Higher Education. I am the Graduate Assistant for the University Honors Program. In this position, I serve as the adviser for the Honors Student Board. Additionally, I process and review grant applications. I also engage in advisement sessions with students, so if you have any questions about your fulfillment of Honors requirements, do not hesitate to schedule an appointment! In my free time, I enjoy writing poems, reading, thrift shopping, singing, and watching Grey’s Anatomy! I also love tailgating with my family and partner during football season!

Hello everyone! My name is John Mobley IV, and I’m a junior majoring in both Physics and Mathematics with a minor in Nuclear Engineering. I am originally from Jefferson, Iowa; however, Ames has always felt like a second hometown to me growing up. I am so excited to be your President of the Honors Student Board this year! Beyond serving on the HSB Executive Board, I am involved in the Society of Women in Physics and the ISU Physics and Astronomy Club here on campus. I look forward to seeing the Honors community grow and prosper this year through the many opportunities Iowa State has to offer — especially HSB events!

My name is Emily Hammer and I am a senior majoring in Marketing and Management with minors in Leadership, Psychology, and French. I am very excited to be Vice President this semester for the chance to work on publicity and social media. In Honors, I am also a Peer Adviser and Undergraduate Research Ambassador. Outside of Honors, I am the PR Chair for Alpha Kappa Psi, the Marketing Chair for Business Council, a Student Leadership Fellow for the Gerdin Leader’s Academy, and a Lead Peer Mentor for Business Learning Teams. I love helping other students find their passion and better themselves so I’m very excited for this semester and all the chances I will have to do so.!

Hello all! My name is Aaron Leppert, a junior majoring in Chemistry and Secondary Education from Rockton, Illinois, and I am very excited to serve as secretary and treasurer for the ISU Honors Student Board! The ISU Honors Program quickly developed into my second home and I am more than grateful to give back in any manner available to me. Within honors, I serve as an Honors Ambassador and work in the main office as a student worker. Beyond honors, I am currently a Cyclone Aide Adviser and will work with New Student Programs to ensure a successful 2020 ISU Orientation and Destination Iowa State. Often, you can find me hanging out with great friends, working out at Lied Recreation Center, or obsessing over wrestling. I love meeting new people, so never hesitate to reach out! I look forward to giving this position my all!

Hi everyone! I am William Sibilski, but you can call me Billy. I am a sophomore in Aerospace Engineering. I am an FHP Leader on top of being on HSB. I am looking at joining new clubs this year so please let me know if you have any ideas! I am a really big nature fan and love being in my hammock. You may often find me in my hammock after classes out on central campus or in random spots. I love spending time outdoors camping. I also am an avid movie watcher and can often be found watching or re-watching movies. I have seen many movies, so if you want to talk about any, I am always here to talk. If you know any good movies I have yet to see, please let me know. I am very excited to be the Webmaster this year for HSB! If you have any ideas for the site, I would love to hear from you.

My name is Braden Westby, and I am the FHP chair on the Honors Student Board for the 2019-2020 year. My dad was in the Air Force for 20 years, and because of that I have grown up moving from state to state across the South-East US. I am a Mechanical Engineering major, going into my 2nd year. I was a House Chair last year on HSB, and will be participating in my third research lab this fall.

My name is Nathan Erickson; I’m the UHP Chair for HSB, and I’m a sophomore in the 2019-2020 school year. I’m majoring in meteorology, and I am originally from Olathe, Kansas. Last year, I served on the UHP Committee for HSB, and I enjoyed the work I did for the committee, which led me to step into this role for this year. I look forward to working on various events this year, such as the Alumni Dinner, Grandma Mojo’s, and more! If you have any questions and/or ideas for the UHP committee, please let me know!

Hi everyone! I’m Joy Westercamp and I am extremely excited to be serving as a co-chair of the Events Committee for the 2019-2020 academic year. I am a sophomore studying Biology in the College of Agriculture & Life sciences and I am originally from Farmington, Iowa. During my first year at Iowa State, I served on the Events and UHP Committees which was a phenomenal experience and gave me the opportunity to pursue this position. I can’t wait to start planning events for students in the Honors Program to help enrich their college experience and build community between Honors students. Hello! My name is Emma Stobbe and I am a sophomore in Industrial Engineering. I am from Shoreview, Minnesota, a suburb of St. Paul. This year I am one of the two Event Co-Chairs in HSB and am super excited to plan events and get to know all of you wonderful honors people better. Some of my hobbies include playing soccer, playing the cello, rock climbing, and petting any and every cute dog I can find (including my own golden retriever, Lilly). Hi there, my name is Zoie! I am a Junior majoring in Pre-Neurological Psychology and minoring in Biology and I am from Clive, Iowa. Outside of Honors, I am the Academic Chair for my sorority Gamma Phi Beta, an RA for the Healthy Habits Psychology Research Lab, and I volunteer for a Parkinson’s Disease research lab doing yoga. I also love Cross-Fit, playing guitar and singing, and my two Golden Doodle puppies back at home.

I enjoy anything art and design-related as well as biking, running, lifting, playing golf, talking to my pet fish Philipé, and listening to music. Hello! My name is Zak Keel, and I am the Anders House Representative for the 2019-2020 academic year. I am a first-year student majoring in Civil Engineering with an environmental specialization. I am an Iowan at heart, as my origins reside in Davenport, Iowa— or a region better known as the Quad-Cities. My interests range divergently from technology and innovation to environmentalism, social activism, novel-hoarding, and journaling. I enjoy engaging with individuals who seek to elevate the knowledge and experience of others, which is why I chose to be involved with HSB. I am looking forward to all of the fantastic events we have planned this year!

Heya, I’m Abbie Schulte! I’m a freshman in Biological Systems Engineering with a focus on Biorenewable energy. I live in Kansas City, Missouri with my two younger brothers and an adorable dog. On campus I’m a member of the Society of Women Engineers, BioBus, Stem Scholars, and a member-at-large for the Civic Engagement Committee of Student Government. I am super pumped to be the house representative for Lorch-Russell, and the joys that continue to unfold up there.

I look forward to helping improve HSB and putting on events that everyone can enjoy.

I am Abe De Jong and I am a freshman majoring in biochemistry and genetics with a minor in pharmacology/toxicology. I am from a Red Wing, Minnesota and have two adorable dogs, and when I am not doing homework I love to swim, workout, and do the crossword. Outside of honors I participate in intramural football and am a member of the pre-med club . I am extremely excited to represent Ebbers house on the HSB committee, and am looking forward to making tons of memories in honors!

Hello! I’m Taras-Michael (Taras) Butrie and I’m a freshman in Aerospace Engineering. My hometown is Grand Blanc, Michigan. Besides being the HSB Rep for Martin Starbuck, I’m also involved in the Orthodox Christian Fellowship on campus, a Career Fair Ambassador, a clarinet in the Cyclone Hockey Pep Band, and a member of the Iowa Statesmen. My hobbies include playing my clarinet, studying, singing, having fun with friends, and trying not to die in Aerospace Engineering.
