Hi! My name is Laurie Smith Law, and I joined the staff of the University Honors Program as the Administrative Director in 2007. I served on the Board of Directors for the National Collegiate Honors Council from 2011 through 2014, and am currently co-chair of the organization’s Professional Development Committee. My primary responsibilities as the administrative director are to work in conjunction with the Honors staff and Honors Student Board to provide members of the Honors Program with an enriched academic experience.

Katherine Sterk graduated with her B.S. in Child, Adult, and Family Services and Psychology from Iowa State University. She serves as the Graduate Assistant for the University Honors Program. In this position, she serves as an adviser for the Honors Student Board and co-teaches HON 302 (leadership seminar). Additionally, Katherine works to recruit high-ability students via Experience Iowa State events.

Katherine developed a passion for service in higher education during her undergraduate experience, and emphasizes the importance of reciprocal relationships within her duties. Because Katherine participated in the University Honors Program as an undergraduate, her approach to student learning is one that emphasizes personal and professional growth. In her free time, Katherine enjoys writing poems, thrift shopping, singing, and watching Grey’s Anatomy! She also loves tailgating with her family during football season!

Hi! My name is Maggy McGary and I am currently a Pre-med Junior majoring in History. I am originally from Rochester, New York but my home is in St. Paul, Minnesota. I lived in Starbuck North my Freshman year and am now a CA in Geoffroy Hall. I am so excited to be your President of Honors Student Board this year! In my free time, I am a massive sports fan and look forward to cheering all our ISU teams to victory. I can’t wait to see you all at our events and have a great year!

I am a senior in Global Resource Systems, Agriculture and Society, and Spanish. I like to stay active and have a lot of hobbies – from running to art to ballet. I also love to travel and have visited many states and several different countries, including Bangladesh, Scotland, and, most recently, Ecuador. I’ve been in Honors since freshman year and have served as an FHP Leader and Honors Ambassador prior to joining HSB.

Hello friends! My name is Emily and I am a third-year in Marketing and Management, with minors in Leadership and French. I’m very excited to be on HSB this year and look forward to seeing you at events. On campus, I’m also involved in Alpha Kappa Psi as philanthropy chair, Mortar Board as treasurer, Business Council, and Cardinal Key Honor Society. I am also the Lead Research Assistant for the College of Business neuro lab. When I’m not working on homework or busy with clubs, I’m typically hanging out with my friends or my (pretty awesome) roommate. I can’t wait to meet you all!

Greetings! My name is Megan Lutz and I am a junior studying English and public relations, with a minor in technical communication. I’ve lived in London (UK), “Chicago,” Illinois, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and most recently – Ames. This year, I am one of the two events co-chairs, and I am super excited to start planning events and meeting everyone in the honors program. Currently, I am involved in Iota Iota Iota, the Iowa State Daily, and the Food Recovery Network. My hobbies include rollerblading, writing poetry, blogging, and researching all there is to know about mythology.

Hello! My name is Zoie, and I am a Sophomore majoring in Pre-Med Psychology and minoring in Biology. I am from Clive Iowa and went to Waukee High School. I lived on the Honors floor of Geoffroy last year, and now live in my sorority house, Gamma Phi Beta. Outside of Honors, I am involved in Choir here at ISU, Blood Drive Exec, Pre-Med Club Exec, Psychology Club, and research. I also love Cross-Fit, playing guitar, and my two puppies back at home.

Hey all! My name is Nolan Jessen, and I am a sophomore in Computer Engineering. I grew up in Marion, IA (right outside of Cedar Rapids). In my leisure time, I really enjoy reading just about any story or hiking. As a Co-Philanthropy Chair, I am extremely excited to create an impact that benefits Honors students and our larger global community! My goal for the year is to raise more awareness about the Philanthropy Board events. I look forward to an incredible year with HSB and the entire Honors community!

Hello everyone! My name is John Mobley IV, and I’m a sophomore majoring in both Physics and Mathematics with a minor in Nuclear Engineering. I am originally from Jefferson, Iowa; however, Ames has always felt like a second hometown to me growing up. As the First Year Outreach Chair, my goals are to create various opportunities for FHP members to engage with the wider Honors community and to establish workshops addressing different aspects of the Honors Program. Beyond serving on the HSB Executive Board, I am involved in the Society of Women in Physics, ISU Physics and Astronomy Club, and Starbuck House Council here on campus. I look forward to seeing the Honors community grow and prosper this year through the many opportunities Iowa State has to offer — especially HSB events!

Hello, my name is Johnny Lawless, and I am sophomore in physics with a computer science minor. I am from Peoria, IL. This is my second year working on Honors Student Board. Last year, I was the Anders House representative, and I also worked on Upper Division Outreach committee and Events committee. As the UHP chair, I’m hoping to get started working on projects that connect current Honors students to the alumni that want to meet them. My favorite event that Upper Division Outreach did last year was the Alumni dinner, and I’m looking forward to making that event even better this year. Hey y’all! I am Drew Daly and I am a freshman in the Core Design Program aiming for Industrial Design. I am from Dubuque, Iowa and greatly miss the hills and bluffs it offers. I enjoy anything art and design related as well as biking, running, lifting, playing golf, and listening to music.
